My name is Marloes Stam and I’m the founder of Creating the New Normal – a platform focused on creating a sustainably happy life. A life of intention, empowerment & self-love.
I graduated with a Master in Politics in 2015 and thought I had checked all the right boxes up until that point. Finishing high school with good grades, check. Interning at the Dutch Embassy, check. Backpacking to ‘find yourself’, check. Studying a semester abroad, check. Publishing my Master research, check.
There I was. Graduated my degree at age 23 and now I could finally start my ‘real life’, right? Weird thing was that I didn’t feel a sense of relief or excitement. Don’t get me wrong, I feel very fortunate I could experience all that. But I remember feeling lost. Completely lost.
I felt like I was living a life that wasn’t mine. Overwhelmed with anxiety, depression & stress. When I faced a burn-out at age 25, I knew I had to make a change.
I was stuck with the question we all face at one point in our life: What makes me truly happy? To be honest, I had no clue. I definitely knew that staring at a computer screen for 8-hours a day wasn’t something I wanted to pursue. Partying till 5 am every weekend didn’t do the trick either.
There must be something. Something that can truly make me happy?
I discovered it wasn’t just something, it was a way of living. Living with more intention. Doing the things that truly fit my values and beliefs. I have to thank Lauren Singer, the Minimalists and Tony Robbins for advocating their best lives and inspiring me to do the same. This is my attempt.
